Devi Lingadharini at Neimicharinyam

Lingadharini is Devi dhakshayi's incarnation. Devi Parvathi is here as 'Devi Sri Lingadharini' and her consort Siva as 'Lingeswara'.
According to the legend the feet of the dismembered burnt body of Dakshayani fell at this place and so it became one of the 51 sacred Devi-sthals. Some legend says devi's diadem (head-gear) fell in this spot. This place is called 'Thabo-peetam' (peetam for doing penance). (refer to 'Yoga-agni' in 'Abodes of devi' for background story) Once all the sages asked Lord Brahma "which in this earth is the best and most tranquil place to do penance".
In answer, Vayu purana says (The holy books) Bhrama sent out a mano-maya wheel (Chakram) to the earth. It kept rolling a long way. The holy men followed the wheel till it stopped. They called the place 'Neimicharanya' and settled down there to do their penance. There is a belief that all the sages of the yore are doing penance there even today.
Naimicharanya is located 45 miles north of Lucknow in Uttarpradesh. Naimicharanya also known as Nimsar is on the left bank of the river Gomati. This place has also been visited by Adi-Sankaracharya and Surdas lived here.
There are several mythical 'theerthams' (rivers) in Neimicharanya.
This forest is so closely linked to Lord Vishnu that he is considered to be an "aranya- swaroopi". (the forest is considered to be the representation of Maha-vishnu just as some rivers are considered as the incarnation of Sri Devi). This is where Sri Vyasa and Sugabrahma had discussions (prava-chanam) on the epics and wrote Sri Mahabaratham and Bhagavatham.
The parikrama here begins at Nimkhar and ends at Misraka. Plenty of rooks (Black birds) gather here in the middle of March. A legend is that sage Dadichi freed himself from his material body so that his bones could be used to destroy the demons. Sri Rama had a dip at the Hatyaharana threetham here and purifed himself after he killed Ravana.
A medieval treatise describes Nimkhar as a religious resort around a holy tank with a strong current, which automatically casts away anything thrown into it. There is a natural stream held in reverence. It says that the sand there takes the natural shape of Siva linga.
The tank referred to is a lake called Chakra Theertham, (where the wheel of Bhrama stopped). It is also the place where Vishnu killed the demons with his discus. The five rivers Godavari, Kasi, Gangotri,Gomathi, and Gomukhi mingle here and it is called 'pancha-prayag'
In this place there is a river called Gomuki. It is said that if one takes a dip here that will be equal to worshipping the Jagan-Madha.
One should worship Devi Lalithmbika temple here so that when the soul departs from the transitory body She should give (Moksham) liberation which is achieved through God realization.
