Chintha-poorani devi at Hosiyapur

Chintha-poorni shakthi peeth is situated in Hosiyapur in Himachala Pradesh. According to the legend of Dakshayani one of the feet from her dismembered burnt body fell at this place and so it became a sacred Devi-sthal of India. (refer to 'Yoga-agni' in 'Abodes of devi' for background story) Long ago there was a Devi devotee called Mayidas living in this area. Because of his deep devotion to Devi and very pious disposition he was dis-interested in wordly affairs. Because of this he was considered unfit to handle the family business and was ignored by his other brothers.
Once he was going to his Parents-in-law's house through a dense forest. He felt very tired and rested under a banyan tree and was overcome with sleep.
While he was sleeping Devi appeared in his dream and told him to do pooja to her regularly at that place. He was nonplussed and went away on his way. On his return Devi appeared before him as 'Simha vahini in that same place and ordered him to do regular pooja for her there. Mayidas was wondering how he could do pooja in that thick forest.
Mayidas bowed his head to devi and asked devi,"Mother I do not know where water is and this thick jugle has no path to anywhere. In this condition how I can do pooja to you regularly?"
Devi smiled at him and said "My son I am here for a long time invisible and my name is Chinnamasta. All the wishes of my devotees will be fulfilled by me. Hence I am going to incarnate as Chintha-poorani. You do not worry about this forest. You will find water under every rock here. All facilities for the puja will come. You and your family and all my followers will get all happiness and prosperity" she blessed him and sat there as Swayambu devi. (self incarnated)
Mayidas was over-joyed. He moved a stone and water gushed out like a spring. Mayidass stayed there with his family and established the temple. We can see the spring and the banyan tree in the temple even now.
As it should be there are shiva temples around this devi's shrine.
All scholars have done research about 'Dasa Maha Vidya' - the ten-cosmic energies and have confirmed that Kali, Buvaneswari and other devis are the energy source of the universe. That is Chinnamastha as Chinthapoorani in Sapro, Himachala Pradesh.
One legend is that the two 'yoginis' Ajaya and Vijaya were with Chinta-poorni when she fought the demons. After the fight the 'yoginis' felt hungry. Devi to satiate their hunger cut-off her own head and asked them to drink the blood that gushed out like a fountain. Chinna-mastha herself drinks the blood and holds her severed head in her hand. The idol depicts this.Though this is a ghastly and a ferocious sight the devi is said to be very benevolent.
It is said that Devi Chinnamastha depicts the stage when the 'Kundalini sakthi' rises up to the highest point leading to self-realization and thus one becomes the 'Brahman'. She stands with her foot on the images of 'Rati" and 'Manmada' as in that state of self-realization the pleasures represented by this couple of love become irrelevant.
